Chikondi’s Story
God Has Not Forsaken Me
Chikondi is a ten-year-old boy from Malawi. He loves God and playing with his friends. Chikondi crawls from one place to another, using his hands to quickly bat the ball to his friend during one of their soccer games. But there are a lot of games that Chikondi can’t join in.
I wish I could stand up and walk by myself just as my friends do. I admire them a lot.
– CHIKONDI
Chikondi’s family was ridiculed for years because of Chikondi’s disability. In spite of all the stigma and pain, Chikondi told us, “I believe God has not forsaken me and that He has a purpose for my life.”
When we asked Chikondi what he wants to do when he gets older, he told us he wants to be a pastor. Then he quoted this verse from Isaiah:
“No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight in you…”
“The LORD will take delight in you.”
This child has been told for so much of his life that he doesn’t matter, but here he is disability and all. That kind of heart-confidence doesn’t happen overnight.
I can only imagine how much love and care his parents have poured into Chikondi. How hard they had to push past cultural norms and how much they celebrated their boy to build that sense of worth in his heart.
The one thing their love couldn’t do was stop his pain.
And Chikondi’s pushed through a lot of pain. He still lives with it now.
Today, you and I have the opportunity to stop his pain. We can give him the vital orthopaedic care he needs and an opportunity to walk for the first time in his life.
You can fund a vital part of the plan to expand orthopaedic care in Malawi by providing the vital transport that kids like Chikondi need to get to their pain-stopping surgery.
