In Ethiopia, we work closely with our trusted partner in the Amhara region. They’ve been there for over 35 years, and one of their key services is disability inclusion.
Expert technicians travel to schools in the area to screen children with disabilities. Specifically, we focus on blinding trachoma because it’s so common in this area. Trachoma is a highly infectious eye disease that can lead to blindness if left untreated. The good news is that blinding trachoma is completely preventable, and we work with our partner to keep eyes healthy to protect the miracle of sight for thousands of kids.
Stopping Trachoma in its Tracks
Your healing hug provides clean water and latrines to help kids beat blinding trachoma. And you also get school clubs up and running so kids can focus on proper hygiene and hand-washing techniques. These programs are all part of disability prevention as hygiene education helps stop the spread of the disease.
If a child needs more in-depth medical treatment, our partner makes sure they receive the surgery and/or medical care they need. We believe that each child deserves the right to sight and health and, together with you, we’re working to make that a reality.
